this character works at a tv station, circa late 1970s...
look at that carpet on the walls! her turtleneck! such bright colors, texture.
dawn of the dead, made around the time of the three mile island nuclear accident, pits the commercialized utopianism of the seventies against realities of that other sort. hence all the bright colors, and the like, it seems to me...
(lynch makes inanimate objects look freaky/scary like that too--fabric, acoustiic tiles, tv screens... eek!)
