"be afraid. be very afraid." -- david cronenberg's the fly
A Seasonal Fantasy
I've been obsessed with the film this image comes from -- George A. Romero's Land of the Dead -- since it was released in theaters in early summer.
After the nightmare of post-Katrina New Orleans was burned in our skulls, I found myself thinking about this flick, all of Romero's apocalyptic works, and those he's influenced, in a new way. Chillingly, they seem more prophetic and real than I had ever realized before.
So, anyways... I was just thinking... What if the victims of our government's criminal negligence in N.O. in particular rose up from the waters, like these figures, and made their way not to the Fiddler's Green tower of that movie, but for the White House and our seat of government? See the movie for where all of that would then lead...
It's an image I've been trying to hold onto, to get me through these frightening times of ours.
